Submissions

To be considered for publication, manuscripts should be saved in Microsoft Word format and attached to an email to cogcrit@umn.edu. Submission of a manuscript implies the following: the work described is not under consideration for publication elsewhere; its submission has been approved by all co-authors, as well as by any institutional authorities. Cognitive Critique will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.

Instructions to the authors

  • Permissions
  • Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages published elsewhere are required to include evidence that permission has been granted when submitting their papers.
  • Submissions
  • Files should be submitted in MSWord (.doc) format. Do not submit .txt, .rtf, .pdf, or .docx files.
  • Text Formatting
  • Font: Use Times New Roman 11pt for all content body text.
  • For emphasis, use italics. Use "double quote-marks" for direct quotation.
  • Use (parentheses) instead of [brackets], except for author insertions to quotations, e.g. "He explained [to the assembly] how this had happened."
  • Headings
  • Use no more than three levels of displayed headings.
  • Paragraphs
  • Do not place an extra paragraph mark between paragraphs.
  • Abbreviations
  • Abbreviations should be defined at first mention and used consistently thereafter.
  • Acknowledgments
  • Acknowledgments should be placed in a separate section before References. The names of funding organizations should be written in full.
  • References
  • References should be formatted as shown below:
    Lastname1 F, Lastname2 CG (2000) Article title. J Name 24: 520-534
  • Images
  • Images and figures should be submitted as separate files in JPEG, EPS, TIFF, PNG, or PSD format at a resolution of 300 dpi or higher. Do not embed images in your document, but rather indicate their insertion points. Figure legends should be included on a separate document page. Do not send images in Adobe Illustrator (.ai) or .gif format.
  • Footnotes
  • 1 Convert all footnotes to endnotes and place them at the end of the text, before Acknowledgments and References.
